A Member of the "Iraqi Parliament" and serves on the "Legal Committee". He holds a "Master’s degree in Constitutional Law" and was elected as an independent candidate from Wasit Province in the 2021 early elections. He later formed a bloc of independent MPs under the name "Watan Bloc" within Parliament. 

Salem is known for his activism in public protests and was one of the prominent leaders of the "October 2019 protests" He currently serves as the head of the Civic "Qiyam" Alliance, in partnership with Dr. Ali Al-Rifaie.
